The A-List: New York

The A-List...
Definitely a list I'd want to be on!

I am addicted to this show. Probably because i get easily addicted to shows such as the Real Housewives of the OC. The tagline for this show is "real housewives...with balls."

The premise of the show is a bunch of gay guys who live in New York. They are all trying to make it (or have made it) and this show follows the drama of their lives. I don't want to give away too many events by talking about it, but seriously this show is such good quality entertainment.

This show makes for awesome television because all the guys can be very relatable. They are all very different from each other which is refreshing, because some of the housewives shows have basically a cast of all the same kind of people.

The Cast:
Austin Armacost
Richan Lehmkuhl
Ryan Nickulas (my favorite! :D)
Derek Lloyd Saathoff
Rodiney Santiago (watch for the hilarious subtitles)
Mike Ruiz

Season 2 just got over, and The A-List: Dallas just started Monday nights on Logo. I will review Dallas later.

Watch this show! It is soooo good and addicting! The second season is wayy better than the first because they kind of decided on what direction they were going to go in with the show. The second season is much less cheesy than the first was.

  1. I do watch this series also, but I disagree on some of the points you have made. I have now seen all of season 1 & 2 and the first episode of Dallas. I would not say I really relate to their lives or situations. Largely they are superficial and backstab each other when it furthers their own agenda. Mostly they find one "A-List"er to pick on and make them feel like an outsider until the next flavor of the month gets his turn. Rodney used to hold firm here, occasionally being dethroned by Austin, but lately Austin has been hogging all that negative attention, a positive correlation with the amount of drinks he has had that night… or day rather.
Season 2 definitely has more of a direction, and that is to self-market themselves into brands. Austin with "modeling", Richen with "his" scent, Ryan with his hair salon/rich husband, Derek with "Tansexual", Rodney with modeling, and Mike Ruiz would does great work with photography, but how many times did we have to hear his full name in one episode. While watching it becomes clear that the producers are pulling the strings and arranging meetings that really would not happen naturally. For example, Austin and Nyasha would never just hang out without the producers "gently" pushing them towards each other (for a fight night round 2).

But, I acknowledge all this, and still watch it because it is such an extreme that it does end up being a hot mess... like an accident where you don't want to look but curiosity wins in the end.

Briefly, I will touch on Dallas. The same formula... each character is merely a replica from New York, but with that ‘Dallas’ twist. However, this time the producers decided more of a shit-show was necessary and found a bigger alcoholic than Austin (James) and a guy who has been around the block more times than Reichen (Levi). We see this in action by having more drama in the first episode of Dallas whereby it took New York half a season to really start throwing the punches. Throw in a love triangle a(nother) sassy black character, sprinkle it with Christian Republicans and accents and we've suddenly filled every seat at the Dallas Gay Bar. Which is a good thing, especially for the ratings --- and of course the viewers amusement.

    Relatable? Nah...

P.S. I would evacuate a room immediately if Nyasha was in it... she is so self-important that my skin crawls...
